Hurricane Dave: Home

HURRICANE DAVE'S CHRISTMAS JAM IV: Thanks to Michael & Matt Faubion, Patti Greene, Stu Schulman, Keith Junot, Matt & Lona Hammer, Harriett Warner, Randy Souhrada, John Anderson and Kari Bailey for creating a feast of holiday sound. Thanks also to Sheila Toomey, Mike Dunham and Matt Sullivan at the Anchorage Daily News for helping get the word out, the staff at Town Square Grill for keeping the crowd fed and watered, and Super Luis, the Grill's owner, for letting us use his stage and for buying a bunch of radio ads to promote the event. The music was great, but, alas, attendance was down and donations were just a little better than half of last year's. To those who did attend -- and most of you stayed for the duration -- your generosity is greatly appreciated! Toys for Tots and Mat-Su Special Santa will split about $275.

GET ME OUT OF THE HOUSE -- AND INTO YOURS: Yes, I do house concerts. If you're interested in putting one on, get in touch with me and we'll set it up. I prefer to stay in Alaska, but I'm open to Outside travel under the right circumstances. How To Book Dave.

I LOVE TOURISTS: Hey, that's how I wound up being an Alaskan Cheechako -- it all started with an Inside Passage cruise and a self-guided road trip in 2004, back when I was a fading Floridian. Visitors to the Last Frontier occupy a special place in my heart, so much that I recently made my company, Hurricane Dave Music LLC, a member of the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau. If you're planning a trip to Alaska, let me entertain your group while you're here. How To Book Dave.

REST IN PEACE, SHARON ADKINS: The feisty owner of the Boomerang Coffee House in Pompano Beach, Fla., which was my musical home-away-from-home in 2007 and early 2008, has moved on to the next world. Sharon was a treasured friend, a strong supporter of live music, and one of the most interesting people I've ever known. Cancer claimed her in April. Her laughter and no-nonsense attitude will not soon be forgotten. So long, my friend. You will be terribly missed.

BUY ALASKA MUSIC AT UAA BOOKSTORE: I recently had the pleasure of joining Yngvil Vatn Guttu, the Sourdough Biscuits, Michael Faubion, Rogues & Wenches and several other local acts for a mini-showcase to launch the University of Alaska Anchorage Bookstore's new Alaska music section, which includes my most recent CD, "The Cheechako Chronicles -- Postcards, E-mails & Tweets From Alaska." Get over there and check out the wide variety of talent we have here in the 49th. Thanks, UAA, for supporting the locals!

THE CHEECHAKO CHRONICLES: The CD released in July 2010 is all original music -- songs about living in Alaska, written from the cockeyed viewpoint of a relative newcomer. It's the perfect souvenir for visitors to Alaska and an appropriate complement to any Alaska resident's music collection. Songs include "A Grizzly Stole My Salmon But She Let Me Keep My Arm," "Made in China" (a song about souvenir shopping), "The Night The Aurora Borrowed Alice," "Cravin' Carbs" and, of course, "Please Don't Ask Me About Her." It's the ideal gift for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. Click here to hear samples of each song.

The CD can be purchased in Anchorage at the Anchorage Museum Shop,  Once In A Blue Moose, Metro Music & Book, The Horn Doctor and Petr's Violin Shop; in Seward at Resurrect Art Coffee House & Gallery; in Fairbanks at College Coffeehouse;  in Copper Center at the George I. Ashby Memorial Museum; at any of my personal appearances or online at cdbaby.com, iTunes, etc. (For details, click the CDs & DOWNLOADS link.)

As long as you're in the cyber-neighborhood, I hope you'll take a few minutes to listen to some clips from my previous album, "Bar Stools & Church Pews: Songs For Friday Night & Sunday Morning," by clicking here. That CD also can be ordered or downloaded at cdbaby.com, iTunes and most other major Internet music sites.

The MUSIC link also will take you to "Columbus Stockade Blues," a song I recorded several years ago with my good buddy and record producer Josh Noland and the world's greatest harmonica player, Charlie McCoy, who was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Way to go, Charlie! It's about time!

There are also some "unplugged" selections, which will give you an idea of how I sound when it's just me, the guitar and the harmonica playing other people's songs.

Click NEWS for updates on my comings and goings and CALENDAR to see where I'll be performing.

Go to PHOTOS to see what I've been up to with some friends of mine.

Feel free to poke around the rest of the site, and be sure to sign my GUESTBOOK and join my e-mail list.

Stay as long as you like. Thanks for stopping by!
